Quotes About Worry Summary
All people worry to a certain extent at various times in their lives. It is a natural part of the way our mind works as we plan for the future. A minimal amount of looking at potential negative consequences can keep us from taking unreasonable risks and help us in making decisions that can keep ourselves or loved ones safe.
Worrying is thinking about future events in a way that leaves you feeling anxious or apprehensive. However, chronic, excessive negative thoughts about the potential outcomes of the events of our lives is not healthy.
In addition to the mental anguish, poor concentration, poor sleep quality, and its generally negative performance effect that excessive worry has in all areas of our lives, it is a leading cause of physical ailments such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, stomach ulcers and high blood pressure.
#1 Become clear on the cause of your worry. Write out in as specific detail as you can, what is worrying you and why you are worried about it. Once you have the details, write out what you believe are all possible options to overcome the problem. Select the action that gives you the best opportunity to overcome your worry and stick to it.
#2 The only downside to the above strategy for overcoming worry is that if you spend hours or days selecting your course of action, the event that you are worried about can come to pass without your taking any action. To avoid that situation, put a time limit on the amount of time you allow yourself to analyze your options. Once that time is reached, move forward on your actions and do not allow yourself any more time to worry or strategize.
#3 Train yourself to accept criticism as a compliment. There is criticism that is constructive feedback to help you. And, there is some criticism that is delivered as projection to help the person delivering the criticism deal with the fact that you may be doing something better than them. So, if you are criticized, you must be doing something right.
The key to conquering worry and turn it into a positive in your life is to use the time that you are spending worrying into action time that improves the problems that are causing you to worry.
